Tags & Segments

Edited

This document provides a comprehensive overview of tags and segments, two essential features in contact management that enhance the organization and automation of your audience. By understanding how to effectively use these tools, you can streamline your communication and improve engagement with your contacts.

Tags

Tags are a method for labeling contacts within your system. They allow you to categorize and organize your contacts based on specific criteria. You can apply multiple tags to a single contact, enabling a more nuanced approach to contact management. Additionally, tags can be automated through our message automation features, simplifying the process of tagging contacts based on predefined rules.

Segments

Segments are defined as a set of rules used to build a targeted audience. They are constructed using contact fields and tags, allowing you to create segments based on any available information about your contacts. This feature is particularly useful for tailoring communications to specific groups within your audience.

Tags vs. Segments

While both tags and segments serve to organize contacts, they function in distinct ways:

  • Tags: Tags are toggleable flags that can be applied at the user level at any time. They are designed to be dynamic, meaning they can be added or removed frequently based on changing circumstances or needs.

  • Segments: Segments are also toggleable, but they utilize both tags and contact data to represent a broader array of traits that are typically more stable. For instance, while an individual patient may have a tag indicating "Needs Response From Jason," a segment could encompass all patients residing in a specific area or those assigned to the same doctor.
